SCiO works by scanning your food material or object and comparing the spectrum it returns to our database or data collection of specific foods. Then, with the use of our algorithms, the individual properties of your scan are evaluated. Our database is currently composed of homogeneous foods, meaning their components are not separate. Thus, evaluating your meal’s overall nutritional values is currently not supported.
For example, a pasta dish would be difficult to evaluate as each component (pasta, sauce, cheese) has different values, but in the future, when apps exist for each element you may be able to scan each ingredient separately to receive an evaluation of the overall values in a mixed dish.
